A one day workshop was today organized on Jan 30, 2020 at Police Lines Mandi on "Investigation of Sexual Assault Cases" for the Investigating officers of Central Police Range Mandi. 37 police personnel of Mandi, Kullu, Bilaspur and Hamirpur districts attended the workshop. The workshop was organized by the office of the Inspector General Police Mandi with the collaboration of Mandi Distt Police and Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) Mandi. Experts from RFSL Mandi delivered lectures in the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion IGP Central Range Mandi, Sh. N. Venugopal said that such workshops are very important in the changing scenario of investigation and police personnel should adopt the latest methods of investigation. Giving details of the workshop Dr Rajesh Verma, Deputy Director, RFSL, said based upon the data analysis of sexual assault cases, a need was felt to apprise the police personnel about the right evidences to be collected and sent to the lab and the right queries to be raised regarding the evidence. The burden on the investigating officers and the forensic laboratory is increasing and the pendency rising, so it is imperative to priorities the evidence collection.
The trends of sexual assault cases, the problem of potential forensic bias, the guidelines about the medical examination of the victim and accused were discussed. Case studies were also taken up to discuss the type of evidence and the pertinent queries to be raised to the forensic laboratory were discussed.
SP Mandi Gurdev Sharma, Additional SP Puneet Raghu, DSP Ram Dev Thakur, staff officer Central Range Mandi were also present.
